The Trio consists of piano bass and drums, and can be extended
to a quartet with the addition of a saxophone and or a vocalist.
This is the format that won both the 2003 and 2005 NZ Music
Awards “TUI” for “Best Jazz Album”.
|
For the slightly larger function –
weddings, corporate and civic events, private parties, -
or in “performance” mode for jazz festivals
or performance venues.
For light music the group plays a
selection of smooth jazz and Latin standards, and can stay
in the background and/or play more upbeat for dancing or
a livelier vibe.
All the performers have
extensive experience in the music industry, including radio,
television, commercial recordings, live performances at Jazz
Festivals and prestigious events at Government House, Te Papa,
St Andrews-on-the-Terrace, the Beehive, wedding venues in
Wellington and the Wairarapa.

Vocalist Fran Barton
and Kevin Clark first teamed up in the 1970s performing at a
top Fine Dining restaurant for several years before becoming
household names as the result of the weekly Brian Edwards “On
Saturday” television show.

An album of music from the show was released
and was extremely popular. The original "On Saturday" vinyl is now a sought after collectors' item. It was re-issued recently as a CD "Don't You Feel My Leg" -including some more recent recordings. More television appearances followed on Happen Inn, Just Jazz, as well as live performances at Jazz Festivals at Tauranga, Wellington and Palmerston North. Her repertoire is flexible, ranging from smooth to hot in the styles of Diana Krall, Natalie Cole, Louis Prima style jump swing, a large dose of humorous jazz, to classic Latin Hits, plus dance music from the Beatles to Disco and some good ol’ Rock ‘n’ Roll.
She appears regularly at venues and events with the group
in the Wellington area.
A recently released CD "The Gentleman
is a Dope" has received four star reviews from major
newspapers.
